Why Riders Ship Motorcycles to Custom Builders
The best custom builders in Canada are not always around the corner. If you have found a shop that matches your vision, distance should not be the thing that stops the build. Riders across every province ship bikes to shops they trust. We receive motorcycles at our Squamish BC location from Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and everywhere in between.
Shipping a motorcycle to a custom builder is simpler than most people think. The motorcycle shipping industry in Canada has matured to the point where door-to-door motorcycle delivery and freight terminal pickup are both reliable and affordable options. The real question is not whether you can ship your bike. It is how to do it the right way.
Step-by-Step Motorcycle Shipping Process
Here is the process we walk every out-of-town client through when they ship a bike to Syndicate Speed Shop for custom work.
- Contact us and confirm your build. We discuss the scope of work, timeline and budget. Once we have agreed on a plan we help coordinate your shipping logistics. This is where Syndicate Speed Shop shipping coordination starts.
- Get a motorcycle shipping quote. We recommend getting quotes from two or three motorcycle shipping companies in Canada. Platforms like uShip motorcycle listings make it easy to compare rates. We can also point you toward carriers we have worked with before.
- Prep your motorcycle for shipping. This is critical. Follow the prep checklist below to protect your bike and satisfy carrier requirements.
- Choose your carrier and book transport. Pick between enclosed motorcycle transport, open carrier or freight terminal drop-off based on your budget and comfort level.
- Ship the motorcycle. Hand the bike off at a Vancouver freight terminal or schedule door-to-door motorcycle delivery to our Squamish shop. Keep your tracking number and bill of lading.
- We receive and inspect your bike. When the motorcycle arrives at our shop we do a full condition inspection. We photograph everything and compare it to the photos you took before shipping. If anything happened in transit we document it immediately for insurance purposes.
- The build begins. Your custom work starts. We keep you updated with photos and progress reports throughout the process. When the build is done we coordinate the return shipment.

How to Prep Your Motorcycle for Shipping
Proper prep protects your bike and keeps you compliant with carrier requirements. Here is the checklist we send every client before they ship a bike to our shop.
- Drain fluids before shipping motorcycle. Fuel tank should be at one-quarter full or less. Most carriers will not accept a bike with a full tank.
- Disconnect battery for transport. Tape the terminals to prevent accidental contact. Some carriers require the battery to be fully removed.
- Remove loose parts and accessories. Saddlebags, mirrors, GPS units and anything that could shift or snap off during transit should come off the bike.
- Retract or fold mirrors if they cannot be removed.
- Check tire pressure and make sure both tires hold air. The bike needs to roll on and off the carrier.
- Lock the steering head or secure the handlebars to prevent them from turning during transit.
- Photograph the entire motorcycle from every angle before the carrier picks it up. Document any existing scratches, dents or damage. This is your proof if an insurance claim is needed later.
- Keep a copy of your registration and insurance documents accessible. Some carriers require proof of ownership.
- Disable the alarm system if your bike has one.
Carrier Options for Cross-Province Motorcycle Shipping
You have three main options when shipping a motorcycle across Canada. Each one has tradeoffs between cost, convenience and protection.
Enclosed Motorcycle Transport
The gold standard. Your bike rides inside a fully enclosed trailer, shielded from road debris, weather and UV exposure. Enclosed motorcycle transport costs 20% to 30% more than open carriers but it is the safest option for custom or high-value bikes. If you are shipping a bike with fresh paint or expensive chrome this is the way to go.
Open Carrier Transport
More affordable but your bike is exposed to the elements. Open carriers work fine for stock bikes and project bikes that are heading to the shop for a teardown anyway. If we are stripping the bike down for a full build, open carrier is a reasonable choice.
Freight Terminal Pickup and Drop-Off
The most budget-friendly option. You drop the bike at a freight terminal in your city and we pick it up at a Vancouver freight terminal or arrange Sea to Sky motorcycle transport from the terminal to our Squamish shop. This requires a bit more effort on your end but saves $50 to $150 compared to door-to-door delivery.
Motorcycle Transport Insurance
Every reputable motorcycle shipping company in Canada carries cargo insurance. Before you book, confirm the following:
- What is the maximum coverage amount per motorcycle?
- Does the policy cover cosmetic damage or only total loss?
- What is the deductible?
- How do you file a claim and what documentation is needed?
Most carriers provide $50,000 to $100,000 in motorcycle transport insurance per load. If your bike is worth more than the carrier's coverage limit, consider purchasing supplemental insurance through a third-party provider. Your existing motorcycle insurance policy may also cover transit damage, so check with your provider before paying for extra coverage.
What Happens When Your Bike Arrives at the Shop
When your motorcycle arrives at Syndicate Speed Shop we follow a standard receiving process.
- We meet the carrier at our Squamish BC location or pick up from the Vancouver freight terminal.
- We unload the bike and inspect it with the carrier present.
- We photograph the motorcycle's condition on arrival and compare it to the pre-shipping photos you provided.
- Any damage from transit is documented and reported to the carrier immediately.
- We confirm receipt with you and send arrival photos so you know your bike made it safely.
- The bike goes into our queue and the build starts according to the agreed timeline.
Squamish BC motorcycle delivery is straightforward because we are located right off Highway 99 on the Sea to Sky corridor. Carriers coming from the Vancouver freight terminal reach us in about an hour. Sea to Sky motorcycle transport is a well-traveled route.
Syndicate's Shipping Coordination Process
We do not just tell you to figure it out. Here is how Syndicate Speed Shop shipping coordination works for every out-of-province build.

- We provide our shop address and receiving details to the carrier.
- We coordinate delivery timing so someone is at the shop to receive the bike.
- We handle the full inspection and documentation on arrival.
- When the build is complete we help arrange the return shipment using the same process in reverse.
